What does a geotechnical company do?
A geotechnical company specializes in studying and analyzing the earth materials (soil, rock, and groundwater) that affect the design, construction, and performance of civil engineering projects.
What kind of testing is done?
Soil and Rock Investigation
Conduct site investigations (boring, drilling, sampling, and testing) to understand subsurface conditions.
Perform laboratory testing on soil and rock samples to determine properties such as strength, compressibility, and permeability.
Geotechnical Engineering Analysis
Evaluate bearing capacity of soils for foundation design.
Assess settlement, slope stability, and earth pressures on retaining structures.
Provide recommendations for foundations (e.g., shallow, deep, pile, or mat foundations).
Ground Improvement & Stabilization
Design and oversee ground improvement methods such as compaction, grouting, soil mixing, or drainage systems to enhance soil performance.
Earthworks and Construction Support
Monitor excavations, embankments, and earth retaining structures.
Offer quality control testing during construction (e.g., compaction testing, field density tests).
